Matthew Rosario therapist

Matthew Rosario, MA, LPC, ACS, NCC

Hi, I’m Matt.

My professional journey as a therapist began with a love of literature and the shared human story of love, loss, despair, and triumph. It’s a fascination that’s always stuck with me, growing alongside my natural curiosity and desire to explore. Eventually, I knew that my life’s work would be in celebrating these human experiences in living, and helping others to develop their own story.

I completed a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Montclair State University’s CACREP accredited counseling program, and became licensed to practice in the State of New Jersey. Now, with over 12 years of experience in direct mental health services, I possess a steady hand in delivering effective and quality care at all levels of care across the greater mental health system. From high-risk inpatient hospitalizations, to low-risk community case management services, and even in high-level hospital administration and management—I’ve provided direct care and oversight of care to a wide spectrum of those struggling with mental wellness.

My primary modalities are rooted in existential, narrative, and person-centered therapy. I also have extensive experience in working with families to move through parenting, teen, and adolescent issues.

My personal passions include writing, composing music, reading, running, and spending time with my family.

My Approach

No matter who or where you are in this grand journey of living, at some point, we all need to stop and take some time—time to care for ourselves, time to reevaluate what’s important and where we’re heading. In following each of our unique paths toward becoming our very best selves, challenges, detours, and great barriers are not only a natural part of our experiences, they’re inevitable. Depression, anxiety, loss, conflict, anger, and doubt can be familiar companions—but so can love, perseverance, acceptance, joy, connection, and renewal.

As a clinician whose primary approach takes root in existential, narrative, and person-centered therapy, I believe that absolutely everyone is powerful. And as my client, that means I believe in your power, too. But what happens when you don’t feel powerful? When you don’t feel like yourself? What happens when the distance between the life you’re living and the life you want to live seems too far?

That’s where a good therapist can help.

So whether you’re experiencing a specific problem, or perhaps one you can’t quite name, I’m here for it all. In our work together, I see my role as that of a companion, witness, and non-judgmental guide toward your greater personal growth, acceptance, and freedom, by providing a space where your voice can be heard, and your strengths can be leveraged. By being here, right now on this page, you’ve already taken the first step. And I invite you to take the next one by contacting me.
